Race Information

The new USATF Certified marathon course for 2022 uses the full length of the Eureka Waterfront Trail.

There will be plenty of friendly and helpful course monitors. Aid stations will be approximately every 2 miles. Here is the course map for both the half and full marathon. Marathon runners will complete the 13.1 course twice.

    Race Weekend Schedule:

    Half Marathon Course

    • The half marathon is two different out and backs, starting at Madaket Plaza, 1st & C Streets in Eureka. Runners take the first out and back going Northwest on 1st Street to join Waterfront Trail under the bridge. It’s all trail to the turn-around at X and 1st Streets. Runners return on the trail to the Boardwalk, pass through Madaket Plaza and onto Waterfront Trail to the second, longer out and back to a turn-around at the end of the trail/Tooby Street parking lot. Although this course is nearly flat, the views are beautiful and diverse, just like Eureka and Humboldt Bay.
    • The half marathon starts at 8 AM, and participants will have 6 hours to complete the course. Walkers are welcome!

    Marathon Course

    • The full marathon runs the Half Marathon course, TWICE! It provides a rare, scenic tour along the whole length of Eureka's Waterfront Trails. Runners will be able to experience the morning unfolding and the waterfront coming alive as they cover the course again. Just like the Half Marathon, this race is virtually flat with ample bathrooms, aid stations and spots for supporters to sit and cheer.
    • The marathon will start at 7 AM, and runners will have a maximum of 7 hours to finish.
    • The trail is open to recreational users. Be courteous and kind when passing or getting passed.

    Marina Mile Course

All races start and end at the Madaket Plaza, 1st and C Streets in Eureka

    • We will not be offering a mile run in 2024. Hopefully things will be back closer to normal for 2025!

Сustom artwork on all of our medals and shirts

We have commissioned local artist (and runner!) Sara Starr to do the artwork for our shirts and medals. Read more...

“The art symbolizes several things I love about Humboldt Bay. I have run or biked many parts of this marathon route, including the windy road from Sunnybrae to Freshwater, the redwood forest paths and hills of Arcata Community Forest, the Samoa Bridge, and the streets of Old Town Eureka...”
